Thursday, 9th April

Note: Please check the 'Tips from the Coordinator' tab to read a new article on mathematical skills by Ms. Zarmeena. Also, the 'Photos' tab has been updated. Thanks!

Unfortunately Ms. Grace and Ms. Emmy could not join our meeting yesterday but they sent pictures wearing their crazy hats. Can you tell which animal is Ms. Grace's hat?

Play the following morning greeting:

Activity One:

Language (Speaking): Mystery Bag
Duration: 15 minutes

Materials: 2 bags (could be shopping bags), toys/objects (For

example, a spoon, toothpaste, eraser, a glue stick or anything that is available in the

house.)
Beginning: Ask your child to pick 4 toys or objects from his/her room and hide them in his

bag. The adult can also choose a few objects and hide them in their own bag.
Middle: Ask your child to pick up a toy or object from his/her bag and start to describe it

while he/she is still hiding the object until you can guess what it is. Encourage your child to

describe the toy/object and help him/her elaborate by asking him/her questions relating to

the function (Can I use it in the kitchen? in the bathroom?). Listen and acknowledge what

the child is saying.
End: Take turns and help your child learn new vocabulary words. Give him/her a 3-minute

warning. Ask your child to help clean up by taking the object back to their place
Vocabulary: you may expand the child’s vocabulary by saying the names of the objects

(sharpener, eraser, cards) the colors (dark blue, light green) the shapes (heart, star, oval)

or describing the touch (smooth, soft, hard), etc.
Extension: Talk about the sense of touch, sight smell, and taste

Brain Break:

Can you follow the below pattern? Put your hands up in the air and then touch your

head. How fast can you go alternating the two actions? Did you get confused?

Activity Two:
Math: Data analysis / Fine motor: Sorting, tonging or spooning (Depending on whatever

you have available at home)
Duration: 10-15 minutes
Materials:  Tray, tongs, tweezers or a spoon, a few pompoms, or any other small

objects like lego blocks or rubber toys in three different colors that can be picked up

with tongs or tweezers or a spoon, and 3 bowls.
Beginning: Place all the materials in the tray in front of your child and ask him/her to sort

the materials by color using the tweezers/tong, transferring them into separate bowls.
Middle: Describe and acknowledge what your child is doing or saying. You can ask how

many objects he/she thinks will be in each bowl. Then encourage him/her to count how

many objects there are in each bowl. You can encourage the child to name the objects.
End: Encourage your child to transfer the objects back to the tray.  Give a warning 3

minutes before the end of the activity and then encourage your child to clean up.
Vocabulary: tong, tray, tweezers, transfer, shapes, big, small, medium, long, objects, etc.
