Note: Please do not forget to wear your crazy hat and join us for our online meeting
in the evening at 5:15 PM!
Play the following morning greeting:
Activity One:
Science (Volcano Experiment)
Materials:
1-cup vinegar
3-4 tablespoons baking soda
1-teaspoon dish soap
Red food color or paint (optional)
Empty plastic bottle or cup
Duration: 15 minutes
Beginning:
Show the materials to the child and ask what he/she thinks you can make with it. Give them a hint that it’s something that’s really hot and erupts.
Middle:
Ask the child to put all the ingredients inside the bottle one by one. While gently shaking the bottle, ask the child what he/she thinks may happen next (Make sure you do not cover the bottle, otherwise, the ingredients inside will get really fizzy and splash everywhere once you uncover the bottle).
Once the volcano erupts, use words like, ‘Lava’ and ‘Erupt.’
End:
You may let the child put a little bit more baking soda in the bottle for the lava to continue to erupt and then give a two minutes warning and then ask him/her to clean up
Extension:
Next time, you can do a ‘Creative Arts’ activity, where you can put clay or paper around the bottle and paint it to make it look like a real volcano. You can then repeat the experiment for the lava to flow out of the realistic looking volcano.
Vocabulary Words: Volcano, erupt, lava, vinegar, etc.

Activity Two:
Mathematics: Counting (Dot Cards)
Duration: 15 Minutes
Materials:
Dot cards (Make them like the picture below)
Pompoms/buttons/coins, etc.
Beginning:
Show the cards with the dots to the child. Ask him/her what they see. Once they say that they see cards with dots on them, say, “I wonder how many dots there are on this card”(While pointing at a specific card)
Middle: Once the child counts the dots, prompt him/her to count as many pompoms/buttons/coins by putting one on each dot. Repeat this with all the number cards.
Extension: After the child has counted and placed as many pompoms/buttons/ coins as the number of dots on the card, remove one or two or three and ask them “How many more you need to add now?” This will teach them the concept of subtraction. Similarly, you can also add the objects to teach addition to them.
Vocabulary Words: Dots, count, add, subtract, etc.
